On Mother's Day

Over the past year my understanding of motherhood has vastly increased, mainly what being a mother means. I know I still have much more to learn as a mom, this is only the beginning, but I am thankful now more than ever for my own mother and those women who have acted as "second mothers" to me throughout my life.

I can't read greeting cards without getting choked up. Most movies make me cry -and I mainly watch action or mystery flicks. Don't even THINK of telling me a tragic story involving children, we will cease to be on speaking terms. I prance around when I hear a friend is pregnant and am utterly devastated to learn of a baby lost. My husband is sick of me trying to wash his face and I feel naked when I'm not wearing my little boy on my hip.

That "never give up" kind of love that sees you through the terrible twos (and onwards) and makes you root and fight for your child -that's what I've been learning about. I am understanding just how much I have been loved for nearly 30 years by a woman so talented, gifted and special. Thank you,Mom, for your sacrifices, your understanding, your compassion and empathy, your listening ear, and most of all for your love -it means the world to me.

And thanks to my other mothers -especially Betty- for all those stages in my life (and even now when I'm far from my own mama) when I've needed those extra hugs, encouragement, and someone to laugh at myself with. I am so blessed to be surrounded by such love.

Now that I'm discovering how deep a mother's love is, I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the care I've received.

Tons and tons of love to you on Mother's Day.

Thank you, Kelly. I, too, am grateful that my first precious grandchild has such a wonderful, creative and loving mother.

I love you,
MiMa
